I had an enjoyable time at last weekend's Abrahamic Faiths' Mother's Day Celebration. A religious leader from the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim each spoke about the significance of Mother's Day from their faith perspective.
Afterward we all had enjoyable conversation around our tables. I for one felt right at home. I was able to bring a copy of the A Common Word in India video for the Muslim community that was present. I was also able to connect with a number of Muslim leaders and share about future plans as well as my past experience of studying Islam and Urdu in India.
I used to feel uncomfortable and nervous at these events for fear that things might turn sour. I also used to feel pressure to "do" something or explain something to those of other faiths. I have come to realize that I am who I am and that God, in His timing, will intervene as the situation necessitates. So I just get to sit back, relax, and see what happens. |
